 What is Organic Cotton?
Organic cotton is simply cotton that is grown without the use of pesticides. Cotton was largely grown organically for some 5000 years up until the mid 20th century. To farm organically is essentially to work with nature as opposed to working against it. By using such methods as introducing beneficial predators, biological diversity, efficient water irrigation, mulches, crop rotations and cover crops - farmers no longer need to use synthetic fertilizers and harmful pesticides. Thus, organic cotton is more natural and safe for the environment and for all of us who consume it.
By choosing organic cotton, we increase demand within the cotton industry. Therefore motivating more farmers to change there methods to a healthier and more financially viable method of farming.
